Made it safely to Tokyo

Our group has arrived safely in Tokyo. Our flight to Bangkok has been delayed one hour, so we have got a nice 6 hour layover. We found a great free Yahoo Internet Cafe in the airport. The students (and Dr. Perrotta and I) could not resist the urge to check e-mail!

We got a surprise this morning at the airport in San Antonio. Dean Merchant got permission to come to the gate to send us off! It was great to see her at the start of our adventure. Thank you Dr. Merchant!!!!

Besides an overflowing bathroom and rowdy American teens on the flight, the flight was a smooth but long one.

Next stop, Bangkok!

Sawati Kap,

I hope you made it safely to Thailand. I’m writing to let you know about the weather situation in Japan. A massive typhoon engulfed the area. As a result, most of the flights (if not all of them) out of Japan have been canceled. Unfortunately, my flight is among the canceled flights. Te American Airlines representative at the airport advised me that all flights in/out of Japan will be full for the next couple of days. As a result, they have booked me a new itinerary heading East via Chicago and London. The flight time will be the same, but I will experience a delay of 6 hours in London (plus the 6 hours here in San Antonio). Consequently, I will not arrive in Bangkok until 6 AM on July 16, 2007. Below is a copy of my itinerary.
